How to Check-Out Tools

There are a few ways an ICC member may check-out a tool from the tool crib.

  • Directly contact (via phone or email) a Maintenance Staff member, preferably the Tool Crib Coordinator, and request the items you would like.  The staff member may then request that you come to the ICC office to pick-up the tools yourself, or he/she may offer to drop-off the tools to you at your co-op.  (If the requested tools are especially heavy or cumbersome, you may request that the tools be dropped-off to you at your co-op.)

  • Come to the ICC office during normal business hours (M-F) and check-out the tools yourself.  Here is the procedure:
    • Go to the front desk and explain that you wish to check-out items from the tool crib.
    • The front-desk staff member will give you a set of keys that opens the tool crib cabinets in the basement.
    • Go to the basement and get the items you wish to borrow – there is a list on each cabinet door of all the items contained within that cabinet.
    • After you locate your items, please LOCK THE TOOL CRIB CABINETS, and then bring the items upstairs.
    • ! If the tools you wish to borrow are not in the specified cabinet, they are out on loan to another ICC member.  You may check the tool crib database (see below) to determine when the tools are due back, or you may contact a Maintenance Staff member to see if the tool can be obtained any sooner.
    • Once you have the tools upstairs, you need to check them out on the “Tool Crib Database.”  To do so, you must be logged-on to one of the computers; ask a member from the front desk to temporarily log you on to a computer.
    • If there is a short-cut on the desktop that says “Tool Crib Sign-out Form,” click on that icon.  Otherwise, go to:  My Computer -> Network Drive “I” -> 19. Databases -> Tool Crib Signout form
    • Once this database is open, go to the left-most column where there is an icon of a “rolodex” name/address book.  Drag the “bar” down until you reach the last record, and then on the menu bar at the top of the screen go to: Records -> New Record.
    • This will generate a new, blank record at the end of the current list.  Fill-in the blank record, completing *ALL* fields.  On the bottom half of the record, select the tools you are borrowing by selecting the tool name from the “Tool Name” drop-down list.
    • After you have selected your tool name, please read the textbox entitled “Comments” for special notes about the tool.
    • You must create a separate record for each tool you are borrowing.  We are hoping to change this inconvenience soon, but for now you must do this.
    • When you are finished filling-in the record, click on the “Process Request” icon and you can then print your “receipt.”

Each tool may be checked-out for 2 weeks and then must be returned to the tool crib.  Members who are uncooperative in returning tools in a timely manner will be fined.

Also, please make sure you clean-off all tools you use.  No one wants oil, sawdust, drywall dust, etc. on a tool they just checked-out.  If you return a tool and the tool is unreasonably dirty, you will be fined.

! You are responsible for all the tools you check-out.  If you lose a tool or any component of the tool, you will be held responsible for the replacement cost.  Also, if you damage or break a tool due to improper or careless usage, you will be held responsible.  Please respect the tool crib so that it remains a functional facet of the ICC for members to utilize.
