Welcome to the World of Nakamura! Nak is named after John Nakamura, an ICC co-oper and Japanese-American who gave his life for his country in World War II. In the early days of the ICC, Nakamura had the largest population of co-opers, including both residents and non-resident boarders. This created a strong community and a powerful influence within the ICC. To this day, the Nak has had more members become ICC President than any other co-op. Nakamara has always been a happening place, photos from the 1950s indicate that Nak members made the most of their prime view. Throughout the years, Nak has had many famous and infamous members. Theodore Kaczynski (the man who later became "The Unabomber") lived next door at the now defunct Kagawa Apartments and boarded at Nak. Ted was a stellar math student while at Michigan, you can even see his name on an award plaque that is dispayed in East Hall.

Current Nak residents carry on the tradition of a festive, diverse population with regular parties and social events such as Wednesday Movie Night, bowling nights, and visits to comedy clubs and other local venues. Something is always afoot at Nakamura, but Nak is also large enough that you can always retreat to the quietude of your room. Nak has enforced quiet hours, from Midnight -10:00 a.m. Weekdays, 3:00 a.m.- Noon on Weekends, so you can sleep and study in peace. We provide a stable balance for students of all persuasions, including smokers/non-smokers, cat lovers/haters, and vegetarians/omnivores. All your vices can be satisfied due to our prime location - proximate to campus, several eateries, and three party stores. Our front porch is arguably the best in Ann Arbor - overlooking the intersection of State and Hill Street.

Life the Nak Way

Welcome to Nakamura House! The Ptderadon on our porch roof is infamous around campus.	One of the best qualities of our home is our porch, which comes with an amazing view...	...of South State St. We are right across the street from some of the best eateries around, BTB being one of them! Smells of burritos, pizzas, and subs waft through the air.
Inside, our living room offers ample space for house members sit relax and talk or do homework.	We also have a public computer connected with high speed internet. Don't have a computer of your own? No problem!	The basement is where our dining room and kitchen are located. This is where everybody eats dinner. House dinners are provided 5 nights a week.
We also have a number of beautiful murals on our dining room walls. It evokes ancient Mayan imagery and helps transport your mind to other exotic locales.	Of course, we also have our own restaurant-grade kitchen to create culinary delights! Cook whatever you want from our fridges and pantry room for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all meals inbetween!	We have 5 refridgerators in our house and a microwave, toaster, toaster oven for your cooking needs.
We also have a TV room where are members enjoy watching their favorite shows and movies.	We also have our own collection of house games. Balderdash, Apples to Apples, and Settlers of Cataan, to name a few.	Upstairs are our rooms. Our house has a capacity of 29 members, so there is always someone around.
Nakamura also has 5 bathrooms to share among us. Here is an example of one.	We also have a parking lot with a 6-car capacity.	Unlike many other establishments, our laundry machines are not coin operated.

Nak combines a host of amenities including a public computer, high speed wireless internet connection, TV/VCR/cable, a piano, a pop machine, foosball, and a large common room where smoking is permitted. Dinner is served in the Nakamura dining area Monday-Thursday, with vegetarian options every day. The cooperative experience at Nak is extremely friendly and memorable.
